Dr. Michael Serrano
Dr. Michael Serrano has been in practice 18 years. He relocated his office to 3103 Clairmont Rd. in Atlanta 4 years ago and is conveniently located to all North Atlanta areas, Downtown Atlanta, Decatur, and Buckhead. In that time, he has become a well respected and valuable asset to the Atlanta community.
Dr. Serrano provides ALL phases of general optometric care but has a special interest and expertise in developmental optometry. |
Dr. Serrano is also a qualified Low Vision Specialist, and specializes in patients with Traumatic Brain Injury, Stroke, and CTE (post concussive syndrome). Dr. Serrano prescribes, fits, and trains in the use of Bioptics, and other magnification devices providing the Low Vision patient with their best corrected vision. He also offers the Rekindle System to address visual field loss often associated with TBI and Stroke.
Dr. Serrano, and his highly skilled and experienced staff, provide diagnostic services, evaluation and treatment for all phases of binocular dysfunction, ocular motor dysfunction, convergence insufficiency, amblyopia,low vision disorders, as well as, vision disorders that have occurred as a result of traumatic brain injury, cerebral vascular accident (stroke), learning disabilities, and autism spectrum disorder. He is an integral part of the rehabilitative community and collaborates with many colleagues from the community in treating the whole patient.
Dr. Serrano's professional network includes neuropsychologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech therapists, and teachers.
Dr. Michael Serrano received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Medical Technology from Indiana University.
Upon completion of his undergraduate studies, Dr. Serrano received his Doctor of Optometry from Nova Southeastern University in Florida.
Dr. Serrano also has a strong commitment to serving the community, as seen in his early commitment to volunteer services while a student at Nova. He is the founder of the SVOSH at Nova where students travel to third world countries and deliver much needed eye services that they would otherwise be unable to receive.
Dr. Serrano has continued his devotion to providing eye care services for the needy by conducting courtesy vision screenings throughout the Atlanta community and working in tandem with organizations like Sights for Students to provide these services at low or no cost.
Dr. Serrano is an active member of the GOA, AOA and College of Optometry in Vision Development (COVD).
He is currently studying for the fellowship program from COVD. Upon completion of this course of study, Dr. Serrano will become a Fellow ( F.A.C.O.V.D.), which is the highest achievement in Developmental Optometry.
Dr. Serrano is married to Dr. Pam Serrano, O.D. who shares his love of Optometry. They have been blessed with three children.

Sharyn Freant has been a practicing vision therapist for 27 years.
Ms. Freant joined with Dr. Serrano as his Lead Vision Therapist in 2009 and continues to offer the latest vision therapy techniques and practices to our wide variety of patients
Ms. Freant provides vision therapy treatment, under the direction of Dr. Serrano, not only for general skills diagnoses but also a variety of complex diagnoses for which our practice has become well known and respected. These complex diagnoses include:
Ms. Freant works very closely with other therapists that the patient may be seeing ( Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Neuropsychologist, Speech Therapy, Auditory Processing Therapy) in a team approach with a professionally co-operative treatment plan.
Ms. Freant includes in her long and broad experience as a vision therapist, delivery of vision therapy services as a consultant to Shepherd Center Spinal Cord Injury/Rehabilitation in Atlanta, Ga., where she delivered in-hospital vision therapy services to patients with spinal cord injury.
Ms. Freant received her B.S.Ed. L.R.T. from the University of Georgia where she specialized in therapeutic recreation for special populations. She continued post graduate studies at the University of Georgia where she completed the requirements for certification in inter-related special education. Ms. Freant has participated in continuing education offered annually through C.O.V.D. and NORA and is a member of C.O.V.D.
Patients travel from as far away as Minnesota, Florida, Tennessee, Georgia and, of course, the entire Metro Atlanta area to avail themselves of the expertise offered by Dr. Serrano and Ms. Freant.
